Selkirk Merchant Company Golf Day 2020
Friday 14th August 2020
The Woll, Ashkirk
On Friday 14th August 14 members of the Company headed out to the Woll for the annual golf day where the Lindsay Henderson Stableford Trophy and the David Heard Scratch Cup were played for.
The morning started with the usual banter over coffee and bacon rolls before play started.
There were some interesting shots, putts and other things going on, with one player’s buggy and clubs paying a visit in to the burn at the front of the first green. Dave Amos came to the rescue and took off his socks and shoes and rolled up his trousers to go in and fish the said clubs and buggy out.
Shot of the day has to go to David Nichol who, after a very wild drive up the 9th, found his ball lying perfect 40 yards right on the 10th fairway. From here he proceeded to hit his second shot rather heavy only to see it bounce off the top of the wall between 9 and 10 and fly 50 yards further on to the middle of the correct green.
With a par 4 now looking odds on David proceeded to 3 putt for a bogey 5.
This only spurred him on for the rest of the round.
Results as follows:
Lindsay Henderson Stableford Trophy
1st David Nichol 37pts
2nd Jake Wheelans 36pts
3rd David Heard 33pts
The David Heard Scratch Cup has a new name on it this year
1st Chris Kemp 74
Special mention also to last year’s winner Grant Gill who this year went to the other end of the scale and won the best endeavour prize.
Thanks to all the members who played and also Stuart Hogarth and Bruce Riddell for driving around in the buggy with the water, juice and beer.
Finally, thanks also to David Nichol for booking the Woll who looked after us very well and David Heard for organising the handicaps, draw and prize giving.
